The EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) has been submitted to the European Council on June 24, 2011 for final approval. This has been the starting point of the official period of implementation of this new, macro-regional EU strategy, after almost two years of intense preparation and discussion in the Danube region. This EU strategy is directed towards a broad scale of players on different levels and in various sectors. It has been the aim of the national conference on July 4, 2011 to inform potential partners in Austria about the current developments, to throw light on different perspectives and approaches, and to elaborate Austrian estimations together with the key players.

Within the framework of this event, the Department of Rural Development of the Office of the Lower Austrian Government informs about the SONDAR initiative (Soil Strategy Network in the Danube Region), which stems from Lower Austria. Talks were held together with the lead partner SENEC (ETC projects with Slovakia, Hungary, and the Czech Republic) and key persons from the EU DSR (Péter Bakonyi and many more), in order to expand these best-practice examples to the entire Danube region within the framework of the SONDAR initiative.
